NC Civilian
NC Civilian's JournalJust voted in NC. Long line. Took more time than usual.
Husband and I usually vote on Election Day because it normally takes less time than waiting in early voting lines. Today line was out the door.
After a bit, we noticed several empty voting booths. Never the shrinking violet, I walked to the front. There were three people sitting at the registration desk. There were three computers but only one person was checking in voters. I said, "What is this? Normally there's more than one person doing this. Is this voter suppression?" They stared at me then said, "No." I replied, "Well, it kinda looks like it." then returned to my place in line. Within less than two minutes, all three people at the desk were calling for the next voter. Suddenly the line was moving right along.
A close friend is a DNC poll monitor. After voting, I called her and told her what happened. Don't let obstruction win. Vote. Vote. Vote.
No yard sign, tracking poll, or long voting line will stop progress.
The republican weapons of intimidation and obstruction will never win if we stand against their agenda in the ballot box. Our vote is sacred. Use your right to vote! Abraham Lincoln said, "The ballot is stronger than the bullet." This year we have another opportunity to prove his words true.
I have my white suit ready for tomorrow. I proudly cast MY vote for Hillary Clinton and HER agenda. Y'all have a happy voting day!
GOTV
Democrats can win big. We just need to make it official. We can be the majority that gets things done. The future is in our hands. We need to grasp it. GOTV!!! Climate change, a living minimum wage, healthcare, global security, embracing diversity, globalization, education affordability, etc...Let's lead instead of obstructing the future. GOTV.
Hi Y'all. I'm Tess from North Carolina
I am happy to find your site and become a DU member. It's refreshing to discover other folks who have similar viewpoints but also tolerate different opinions. Republicans have so gerrymandered and suppressed in my state that I begin to wonder if it will ever end.
The beginning of "Election 2016" brought many questions. After forcing myself to watch every Republican Primary debate, I was further appalled when Donald began to rack up wins. What was I missing? So I took a drastic step for a "news junkie". I cut cable & internet news cold turkey. I relied on network news only. OMG! My husband threatened intervention if I continued ranting while watching. Needless to relate, my short-lived experiment ended with a glut of internet news sites. Network & MSM news drain my soul of hope for reasonable discourse. Network news is all some people watch.
I think one problem we face is wading through the noise of careless hate becoming normal. There is a heuristic phenomenon called "anchoring". So let's suppose somebody puts a number in your head and, after a while, it looks plausible. This is how our minds work. We hear something strange or wrong then try to make sense of it. Trying to make sense of it makes us more prone to believe it. Anchoring is a very powerful suggestion. Being anchored is something worth resisting.
Thank you Democratic Underground members for giving me a space to relax and be myself without anchors.

At the time, I thought Hillary should choose Warren or Sanders. Hillary defintely made right choice.
Kayne is an honorable man. Plus, after hearing more about him, an intelligent choice for VP.
I'm a coward.
I quit paying attention to polls weeks ago. Too much angst. What matters more than the bet is the actual win. So GOTV for me. Action at this point is better for me than calculating odds. Looking at odds makes me want to hide. GOTV. I'm with Her.
Thank you for the welcome
Glad to be here right now.Yes!!!
Will dress in white and wait for the shattering of another glass ceiling. I'm With Her.
When obstruction is the best choice,
what does that say about your vision for the future? Change is generally inevitable. Right-wing refusal to embrace the passage of time and acknowledge different opinions is perplexing to me.
